We set up the rubbish and placed the baby in its midst as a picture of the trash that God enters and out of which he leads us - scores of people stopped to ask what it was about and where shocked to hear the story of Jesus told in this way.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4906129576554347352.post-38240677656244959032010-12-20T04:35:00.001-08:002010-12-20T04:47:06.653-08:00Beer and CarolsOn Thursday 16th december, a group were singing Carols and telling the Christmas story in Watergates Bar in Chester. Why did we do that? The good news of Christmas is normally contained in our churches, where we hope that we will attract people in to celebrate with us the festive season. However, there are already hoards of people who know how to celebrate out and about in the pubs and bars in the City during Advent. Why not go to them?
At 7pm, a motley crew from the Light Project, dressed in home-made nativity costumes, along with other local Christians, people drinking in Watergates and late night shoppers gathered together. People were encouraged to get a drink from the bar and given carol sheets and were invited to join in. Carols were interspersed with readings, telling the Christmas story in modern day language. It was great just to get together, but highlights of the evening included conversations with a group of Scouse lads on a works night out and having a group of Geography uni students come and sing "Away in a Manger" and "We wish you a merry Christmas". Thanks to all who were involved and to Neil and the bar staff at Watergates in Chester.

Anina ThomasUnknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4906129576554347352.post-86221588539900598692010-05-19T09:02:00.000-07:002010-05-19T09:45:22.728-07:00The team left the confines of Chester this week to perform a drama by Life Hope. We performed this piece in the city centre which looks at how Christ liberates us and then chatted to passers-by. We then went to a park and gave ice pops to the homeless, prayed with the community police and finished off in a curry house - as you do!Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4906129576554347352.post-40187054181737079402010-04-21T10:38:00.000-07:002010-04-21T10:42:35.680-07:00<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisOPUTZCmKpd6cYGixdykjV17_VSssahD823_0iHbcM6HSsOjWtZbdQ7EXEe3a3wNUhV2Kmd9yW6x_f_dA9MEVK58_lXP6XxfL1cB1FxQwsN-JYdsIctWgY0MX35JIxHV7Z7CzmtCljr-h/s320/DSCF1304.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462646646355519634" />
This Sunday we headed out to a car boot sale at 7 in the morning to tell people about the free gift of Jesus. Amidst the bric-a-brac we had been given some valuable items including an ipod and silver objects. When people asked about these we told them that they were a gift with the one condition that they had to receive them freely and they could give nothing in return. We explained that this was the gift of Jesus from God and there was only one way to receive that. Some people were astounded, others tearful and others insulted. Many people got the gospel for the first time.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4906129576554347352.post-66181718092450951362010-02-26T07:41:00.001-08:002010-02-26T07:55:10.246-08:00Easter OutreachOur 1st years are starting to plan their Easter outreach - as part of their module on the course they need to research the Easter message and relate it to people in chester in a way that they will understand.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4906129576554347352.post-91819316689486091202010-02-22T08:22:00.000-08:002010-02-22T08:36:59.851-08:00Mansfield<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 279px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFjBXJL7qMEoX7sv_HjHBT-9Wg3Q3JiBeFyPYYOjseic6Nb0peGa_LPdieofbZd0QJJ-vTRgN98Y5cL3s2-r7MSQN-RaxZxNesWKZ8I51E34pboKo4AtfMV1svFTcwBCOiFNdfC-t7fwI_/s320/pint.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5441107722759868274" />
This month, we visited Mansfield near Nottingham. We spent the morning doing a selection of different kinds of street evangelism from treasure hunting to flower give-aways to free hugs to shoe shine. Maybe the most amazing chat we had was with a local guy called Mick in the local pub afterward. We spent an hour chatting with him about football, families, food and faith. We ended up praying with this guy and giving him a gospel. He said that no-one had ever prayed like that for him and he would read the booklet with interest - keep Mick in your prayers if you have read this.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4906129576554347352.post-23128624896175136292009-07-01T01:29:00.000-07:002009-07-01T01:31:54.965-07:00Clubbers in Liverpool<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhbVSjOvZkimBpF20EVM-85KiKUMDqYj9wwtRAMwVPp8k3uixa7aXgSTC6nZ0r-p5UzIEeACJMClbCGe0Q3Eh8XN0QbAdl5UQ7OXYc4piVOvsKvVhjt-zlN51wpA6mo4J15L_isMcCRjwg/s400/DSCF0686.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353406432624651522" />
The second year light teamers carried out an interactive art project in Liverpool, involving the clubbing community. This Easter they did an excellent outreach where they contacted around 200 people with opportunity for them to talk about Easter and what it really means! The outreach was wonderfully varied with a central theme of New Life, ranging from T-shirts with New Life printed on the front and Happy Easter written on the back, from planting your own sunflower and being able to take it away in a little brown paper bag to somebody dressed in an awesome bunny suit giving out chocolate Easter Eggs! Brilliant! It was a pleasure to watch and be a part of!

Jon PhillipsUnknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4906129576554347352.post-48747679257502297252009-04-01T11:45:00.000-07:002009-04-01T12:05:59.880-07:00Easter NativityLast weekend we set up a nativity scene in Chester at Easter time. The idea was all about finding God in unexpected places and times - a king born in a stable, a good man found in court, a pure person dining with the prostitutes, the person supposed to free the Jews from the Romans found on a Roman cross - God found in unexpected places. And finally, an empty tomb, not where you expect him to be. Hence the nativity at Easter, finding God in Chester in unexpected places and times. We chatted with hundreds of people over 2 days and talked about how God turns up often when you don't expect him - we prayed with a guy that God would show up in his life in an unexpected way.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4906129576554347352.post-8459842768497526092009-03-25T14:53:00.001-07:002009-03-25T14:55:29.173-07:00shoe shine<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 135px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrFKWIOsFAYikkXMABRl8ujwvUNcT_Auoti0L8uz58CSofRwHJjSAfigR_US4dZArHXYA93DUfFmREQ9dW_4CUJZy8x6CkwlNM1fNP-ujXP3JZ8IpeqYUQIXV0HxwS6EoksX-785jH1Rg9/s200/shoeshiningimage.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317246977362512130" />
We have been out recently doing some street evangelism in Chester city centre. They arranged rubbish in the shape of a cross, placed a baby doll in the middle and struck poses around the installation -one person indiffernt, one praying, one scorning and one trying to reach it. From the first minute people stopped to ask what was it about. People discussed with us what it meant and tried to graplle with the whole idea. We explained God coming into our mess to over 40 people today and shared out our gospels and literature - the team were amazing - we connected - in one woman's words "Oh yeh, I get it, I really get it".Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4906129576554347352.post-59451406270158234192008-10-06T14:01:00.000-07:002008-10-10T11:09:20.315-07:00Mansfield

Today, our team travelled down to Mansfield to join with ICIS in some streetwok. We did a series of stunts and giveaways in an attempt to connect the gospel with the people on the street. Over a period of one and a half hours we explained and demonstrated the gospel to many many passers-by, chatted with over 50 people - listened to over 10 people pour out their hearts about their lives, gave away 10 gospels to people who actually wanted to have a gospel, prayed with 4 people, invited 4 people to try a local church, explained parts of the good news in some depth depth to 3 people and invited one to take up Jesus on his offer. Here are some of the stories;

Jake is about 16 - We chatted for about 15 mins on faith. He was not familiar with the story of Jesus and asked all his questions freely. He wanted to chat and was up for trying out church so I pointed him to St John's in the centre and he took away the gospel of John to read.

We prayed on the streets

One lady who had come off heroine some years back along with her daughter were intrigued by us and just wanted to stop and chat. She told us of her life and struggles and we listened intently - it was a wonderful story. She accepted our offer of prayer for her and her daughter.

We did some magic tricks - people stopped to chat.

Emily listend to a guy for around 1/2 hourwho had really been put off church by some negligent people . He needed to tell someome so she listened and apologised on behalf of the church.

We gave way prayer candles - some laughed, some took them and we chatted about prayer.

A father and daughter took a prayer candle from us and chatted for over 20 mins. The girl, in her 20s, said she had been thinking about church for a while. She and her father took away a gospel and a 'Why Jesus'.

We gave away hugs - people said it made their day - they needed that.

Ben chatted with a guy who asked all his questions about Jesus and faith. He clearly was thinking it through and he was offered a chance to take up the offer. He said that this was a big thing and that he had to think properly about it - good on him.

We asked people about their views on the church - we listened and learnt something new.

We met God and God met us - we were blessed and we blessed people in the name of our marvellous saviour.

There were many more stories ...
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4906129576554347352.post-81606340046961758942008-09-25T11:07:00.001-07:002008-10-13T13:28:09.893-07:00A box of happiness

Today Lydia and I went to to do some questionnaires. On the off-chance we popped into an estate agent and did a questionnaire with some of the ladies in the office. We chatted for about 20 minutes where one of the girls explained her faith and hope in life. They had both been regular church attenders but drifted out of church as life had changed. We asked one what gift she would really like in life and she answered ' a box of happiness'. Intrigued, we asked her what would be in that box and she answered ' security and love'. Lydia's gonna go back with that box next week - watch this space...

An so we bought a gift box with ribbons and put inside a teddy signifying 'love' and a chocolate thing with'security' written on it. Lydia wrote out some verses from the bible about how God has promised never to leave us and of his unending love for us. We went back and left the box on her desk - Lydis got a phone call this week ...
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4906129576554347352.post-7711499774115902502008-08-25T05:32:00.000-07:002008-08-25T15:05:59.883-07:00Passion in Wrexham

Students at the Light Project were invited by churches inn Wrexham to host an outdoor service which comprised different ways of trying to communicate and connect the Easter message.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
